He was reared and educated in Scrubgrass township, Venango county, PA, and was a graduate of Iron City Commercial College, Pittsburgh. In the fall of 1884 he was elected Register and Recorder of Venango County, on the Republican ticket, and re-elected in 1887. [HVC 1890, 968]
