General Notes: Husband - Henry Washington "Washington" Shaffer
He was six years old when the family removed to Venango County, PA. His boyhood was spent in Richland Township, in the usual manner of farmers' sons of the time, and he eventually settled on a farm in the adjoining township of Rockland, being interested in agricultural pursuits all his life. He also engaged in the production of oil and took contracts for the drilling of oil wells, in which line he acquired considerable experience. He served as a Union soldier during the Civil war for three years, as a member of Company M, 5th Pennsylvania Cavalry. [CAB, 811]
He died in 1906. [CAB, 811]
