He and his wife were natives of Lancashire, England, coming to America in 1819, they located at Philipsburg, Pennsylvania, to make their permanent home.
He and his wife were both born in Manchester, England. In 1819 they came to America, locating first at Philipsburg, Pennsylvania, where he followed his trade as a weaver, bleacher and hatter. After a time he moved to Rush township, Centre County, Pennsylvania, where he developed a farm and opened a coal mine, the output from the latter being hauled to Bald Eagle Furnace.
