He received a common school education, and for some time was a clerk in his father's store. April 16, 1888, he purchased the livery stable of Thomas Lynch in South Oil City, and did a general livery and boarding business, having in service about twenty horses. His wife was a mem­ber of Grace Methodist Episcopal church. He belonged to Cornplanter Lodge, I. O. O. F., and was a Republican. [HVC 1890, 895]
