General Notes: Husband - Jacob Remaley
He was born on the family homestead, about five miles north of Export, in Franklin township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and received a common school education. He learned the millwright's trade and has nearly all his life been engaged in the manufacture of lumber. At the age of thirty-two he went to Irwin and there for two years had charge of a saw mill, and for another two years was engaged in the same manner in Allegheny County. At the end of that time he went to Robins Station, in the same county, and there for three years operated a large mill for the firm of Robins & Jenkins. He then returned to his native county and to Franklin township, where for four years he had charge of the old "Haymaker grist-mill." His next removal was to Sardis, Pennsylvania, where for one year he operated a portable mill and then moved it to New Texas, Allegheny County. There for some time he managed it for himself, and in 1880 returned to Franklin township, where he purchased a saw mill. The same year he sold the farm left to him by his parents, and bought a part of the Hoey farm, where he resided. After operating his saw mill for about twenty-one years he sold out to his sons. He served as assessor of Franklin township; was a Democrat in politics, and a member of the Lutheran church.
