General Notes: Husband - Abraham Banks Curtis

---

He came to Venango County, PA, with his parents in early life, and there grew to maturity and married. In his youth he was engaged as a clerk in Castelman's store in Emlenton, and later on taught school; after this, however, he entered mercantile life at Lisbon, Pennsylvania, where his marriage oc­curred. Relinquishing mercantile business, he finally went to farming on a portion of the old homestead, working a half of the original hundred acres owned by his father. During the outbreak of the oil excitement in Pennsyl­vania, he removed to Franklin, and then to Oil Creek, in both of which places he worked as a carpenter. He returned in his old age to Clarion County, after which he located finally in Emlenton where his last years were spent. He was a prominent man politically in Ve­nango County, being a Democrat and serving for many years as justice of the peace. Like his father before him, he was a member of the Presbyterian church, and to this denomination his wife also belonged.
