He was born in Handy Lexington, Kentucky, and moved to what is now Elrod, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, and later to the Muse homestead in the same county.
He was a farmer, and purchased property in Versailles township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, in 1832. He was a prominent citizen, and represented Allegheny County in the legislature in 1854-55, and was county treasurer in 1858-59.
He located on the "Gallant Tract" in Versailles township, Allegheny County.
