Howard L. (Doc) Cunningham, 75, North Main Street Extention, RD 9, Meadville, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1981, at Spencer Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born at Clintonville, Venango County, May 6, 1905, son of Frank and Stella May Hoffman Cunningham. He married Lucille Friggle Sept. 8, 1926. He retired in 1961 as temperature control foreman with the former American Viscose Corp., now Avtex Fibers Inc., where he had worked for 32 years.
He worked as a red coat volunteer at City Hospital and was a member of Stone United Methodist Church; Masonic Lodge 408; Sottish Rite Bodies, Erie; Zem Zem Shrine Temple, Erie; Elks Lodge 219; and Meadville Moose Lodge.
Survivors include his wife; a son, William P. Cunningham of Cleveland; a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Shirley) Gustafson of New Albany, Ind.; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Lois) Emrick of Geneva, Ohio; a brother, Harold F. Cunningham of Boca Raton, Fla.; and six grandchildren.
Friends may call today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home where services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Arthur M. Crawford, visitation pastor of Stone United Methodist Church, officiating. Entombment will be at Roselawn Mausoleum. The family has suggested that memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Fund or American Cancer Society.
