General Notes: Husband - Dr. John Victor Cowden, M.D.
His early education was acquired in the public schools of Butler County, Pennsylvania, after which he attended the Slippery Rock Normal School, from which he graduated in 1892, and the University of Pittsburgh, from which he was graduated with the class of 1896, receiving the degree of Doctor of Medicine. The year of his graduation Dr. Cowden began the practice of medicine at Middle Lancaster, Butler County, where he continued three years, and then for three years practiced at Renfrew, Butler County, and then came to Butler, where he then practiced medicine and surgery.
Dr. Cowden was a member of the American Medical Association, the Pennsylvania State Medical Society, and the Butler County Medical Society. In politics he affiliated with the Republican Party.
During the first World War he was one of the examining board for Butler County.
Dr. Cowden was a prominent member of the Masonic Fraternity, belonging to Butler Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons; to the Pittsburgh Consistory; and to Syria Shrine, having attained the thirty-second degree. He was also a member of the Sterling Club of Butler, the Board of Commerce of that city, and the Butler County Country Club. In religion he was a Presbyterian.
