General Notes: Husband - James Couse
He came to Mercer County, Pennsylvania, from New York, about 1817, and settled one mile north of Sheakleyville. He was an enterprising farmer, was also engaged in the saw-mill and lumber business, and was recognized as a man of sterling integrity. He was an unceasing opponent of slavery, a warm friend of the oppressed race, and a conductor on the underground railroad through that section of the state, and assisted many a poor fugitive slave on the road to freedom.
was a farmer, and spent his life near Georgetown (Sheakleyville), Pennsylvania. Politically he was in accord with the teachings of the Whig party and a very ardent Abolitionist. He was a justice of the peace for a long term of years and belonged to the Methodist Episcopal church. He had the distinction of serving as a soldier in the War of 1812. He and his wife had nine children, four of whom lived to maturity.
