He was a graduate of Uniontown high school, spent a year at Pennsylvania State College, and entered Hahneman Medical College at Philadelphia; was assistant in surgery to W. B. Lenopp, dean of the college; was class orator in his junior year, and graduated M. D., June 6, 1912. In August, 1912, he entered the Homoeopathic Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for a special course in surgery.
