General Notes: Husband - Frank P. Cottom


He was educated in the public schools of Lower Tyrone township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, Valparaiso (Indiana) University, the State Normal School at California (graduate class of 1890), and Mount Pleasant Institute. He began professional life as a teacher in the public school, resigning in favor of journalism, becoming editor of the Genius of Liberty, continuing four years, then became city editor of the Daily Genius and Morning Herald. He made law a special study for several years, and on October 25, 1908, was admitted to the Fayette county bar, and became established in practice, having as partner his brother Harry, and practicing as Cottom & Cottom. He was a Democrat in politics; a member of the Grand Fraternity, the Improved Order of Heptasophs, and with his wife belonged to the Methodist Episcopal church.
