General Notes: Husband - John Culbertson
He came to America when a child and was raised in Londongrove Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania. He was appointed Lieutenant of Pennsylvania Provincial Militia from Chester County, in Col. Moore's Battalion in the year 1748. (See Pa. Colonial Arch.). No further mention of him in Archives but one may presume he served in French and Indian War. 1st Battn. Capt. John McCall (Futhey's Hist.)
"By a Patent of the Penns he was, on Jan. 15, 1739, granted a tract of land in East Coln Tp., Chester Co., Pa." Here he died and was buried at Brandywine Manor.
A deed at date of Oct. 1770 shows his children residing in the following Tps.: "Andrew in West Coln; James in East Coln; John in East Coln; Samuel in Carnarvon Tp., Berks Co.; Benjamin in Chester Co. and son-in-law Benjamin Wallace." Sometime after the death of her husband (John I) his widow lived in Lancaster Co., Pa., and made her will in that Co. in 1809. Part of her farm was in Chester and part in Lancaster counties.
One source states that his wife's name was Ann McNair - this is apparently confusion with his son James.
It is not clear which of the children listed were born the his first wife, and which to his second wife.
Notes: Marriage
They were married at the First Presbyterian Church of Philadelphia.
