He resided for many years near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, but afterward moved to York County.
After his son John was born near Gettysburg, he afterward moved to York County, locating near Clear Springs, where he owned 400 acres of land, and was proprietor of and operated two large flour-mills for many years.
He was a prominent man of York County, Pennsylvania, and represented that county in the Legislature. He and his wife were members of the Lutheran Church.
