He remained on the paternal homestead until 1889, then moving to the old Wilson Mill, Venango County, Pennsylvania, which he operated until the oil excitement in the vicinity of Sugar Lake made his property valuable as oil territory, when he sold the farm at a good figure. He then lived retired at Cooperstown, enjoying his leisure years.
