General Notes: Husband - Jacob Scholl Moyer

"Jay S. Moyer, one of Bethlehem's most prominent citizens and business men, died of a complication of ailments Sunday at his late home on March St., Easton. For many years Mr. Moyer occupied his residence at the corner of High and Market Sts., Bethlehem, but after spending a few years in traveling, had been living in Easton during the past year. Born at Waterloo, New York, and bereft of both parents in early childhood, he came to Bethlehem as a mere boy to make his home with his uncle, Dr. Jacob P. Scholl, and remained a member of Dr. Scholl's family until the latter's death. Being closely attentive to Dr. Scholl's business interests, Mr. Moyer, when a young man, became identified with the slate industry, in which he rapidly attained a position of influence and respect, and he had continued his interest in the slate business for more than fifty years, to the time of his death. He organized several slate companies, among them being J. S. Moyer and Co., which corporation successfully operated the Old Bangor slate quarry at Bangor, for a long term of years. He was closely associated with the school slate business of this country, having held controlling positions in companies operating school slate manufactories in Bangor and Slatington. His business interests being largely centered in Bangor, he organized the electric light company there and developed it into an active public service corporation. He organized the Blue Ridge Traction Co. and the Allen Street Railway Co., whose trolley systems are now being operated in this county. He was an active member and an ardent worker in Trinity Church, Bethlehem, having held the position of rector's warden and treasurer during many years. Mr. Moyer was married twice. His first marriage was with Mary Coolidge, of Philadelphia, who died in 1891, and his second was with Margaretha Leinbach, of Bethlehem, who alone survives him. The funeral will be on Wednesday with services in Trinity Church at 11 o'clock. Interment private at Niskey Hill Cemetery."
