He was a native of Germany, and on coming to the United States located in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, where he spent his remaining days.

He came to Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, from east of the mountains and located in what was then Sugar Creek (later Washington) township, obtaining about two hundred acres. There he reared his family and continued to live until his death. He was of German extraction.
