He taught school for several terms, read medicine, attended Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, and the following winter graduated from the Western Reserve Medical College, Cleveland. He settled in Fayette City Pennsylvania, and practiced medicine until his death. He was one of the most prominent and successful physicians in the Monongahela Valley.
