After taking a course at Allegheny College he began the study of medicine with his father, Dr. Robert Crawford, and then entered the University of Pennsylvania. After his first course of lectures there he commenced practice in Cooperstown, and in Titusville with Dr. Jennings, continuing for five years, until 1864. Returning to the University of Pennsylvania he was graduated from that institution in 1869, after which he resumed practice in Cooperstown, returning to Philadelphia very frequently for post-graduate courses. Although known as a fine general practitioner, he had more than a local reputation as a surgeon, and made himself a name worthy of the descendant of his respected and talented father. [CAB, 571]
