He came to America with three brothers and settled in Elmira, New York, where he married. He and Lydia were the parents of sixteen children. By 1829, he moved his growing family to Rockland Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania. In 1865, he and his wife moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, with several of his sons and he died there.
