General Notes: Husband - Samuel Coldsmith

In boyhood he was bound-out to the service of Jesse Lippincott, a merchant of Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania, and consequently had but little opportunity for acquiring an education. He did, however, receive some instruction in the common schools of the place and learned the trade of saddle and harness making with a Mr. Eicher, at which he worked thereafter. In the autumn of 1840 he established himself in that business in West Newton.
In principle Mr. Coldsmith was a prohibitionist. He served his town as a member of council and school board, and was an active member of the M. E. church, in which he was a trustee, treasurer, class leader and for thirty-six years was the librarian of the Sabbath school. Mr. Coldsmith belonged to the American Legion of Honor.
