General Notes: Husband - Homer H. Swaney


From the public schools of Beaver Falls, he went to Hookstown Academy, and thence to Grove City College, from which he graduated in the class of 1903, with the degree of Bachelor of Philosophy. His formal education finished, Mr. Swaney studied law in the office of D. A. Nelson, of Beaver, and was admitted to the bar September 14, 1908. He continued the practice of his profession for some years as the partner of J. R. Martin, under the name of Martin & Swaney. Their office was located in the Federal Title and Trust Building, Beaver Falls, and their practice was in all courts. Mr. Swaney's business connections were notable. He was a director in the Federal Title and Trust Company; treasurer and a director in the Superior Steel Products Company; vice-president of the Industrial Electric Company, and a director of the Mai Realty Company. In politics Mr. Swaney was a Republican. He served as a United States Commissioner for a period. His first military service was at Grove City College. During the World War he was commissioned second lieutenant and was assigned to Company H, Third Pennsylvania Reserves, and was later transferred to the staff. He was local chairman on National Defense Day and at the head of the Legal Advisory Board of the county. He also did much speaking during the drives and on other patriotic occasions, for which he received the usual acknowledging certificate from the government. He also served as military instructor for the local board, Division No. 2, Selective Service.
In fraternal circles, Mr. Swaney was a thirty-second degree Mason, a member of Parian Lodge, No. 662, of Beaver Falls; Beaver Valley Commandery, No. 84, Knights Templar; a member of Valley of New Castle Consistory, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite; and of Syria Temple, Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. He was lieutenant governor of the Southwest Division of the Kiwanis clubs, and was past president of the local Kiwanis Club; a member of the Tamaqua Club, of the Beaver Valley Country Club, and of the Chamber of Commerce, of Beaver Falls. As a service veteran Mr. Swaney was a member of the American Legion, Father's Division, Post No. 261. In religion, Mr. Swaney was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Beaver Falls, and was a member of its board of trustees.
