Of Scotch-Irish extraction, he and James Morford came to Mercer County, PA, from the vicinity of Trenton, NJ, about 1804, and settled in Hickory Township.

He and his wife immigrated to New Jersey from England prior to the Revolutionary War, and to Mercer County, PA, about 1803 or 1804. They were Baptists.

He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War.
