He was born Dec. 13. [HVC 1890, 1074]
He attended the common schools of his neighborhood and remained on the homestead until thirty-three years of age. In 1862 he enlisted in the 4th Pennsylvania Cavalry, Company I, and by the company was promoted to the Second Lieutenant. He remained in service about three months when he was cited, by Major Kerr, before the Board of Examiners, on which account he handed in his resignation, fearing that he would not be able to pass the examinations. After he came from the war he was engaged as a stock-dealer, and later as a farmer in Plum Township, Venango County, PA. He had a farm of one hundred and fifty acres.
He was a Democrat in politics and has served in various township offices. He was a member of Andrew Jackson Post, No. 299, G. A. R., of Cooperstown, and belonged to the Methodist Episcopal church. His wife was attached to the Presbyterian church.
