He was married in 1831. In 1835 he removed from Elderton, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, and settled in Indiana, the county seat of Indiana County, where he then resided. He was engaged in the tannery business for about thirty-seven years. He had conferred upon him many offices and positions of trust.

He was a justice of the peace of the borough of West Indiana for seven years.
