General Notes: Husband - Levi Smith Clough
At eighteen years of age, he left home and engaged in working at the trade of carpenter and joiner, and thereby earned the means which enabled him to buy books and secure an education. After about two years' experience at the carpenter's trade, he began contracting, and eight years later engaged in the wholesale lumber business. Beginning in 1876, he resided in Union City, where he built up a large business. When he opened his business there, it was on the small capital of $4,500, but by perseverance, honesty and industry, he met with success, and carried an average stock of $15,000, and besides was engaged in manufacturing in Chautauqua County, New York, and Crawford County, Pennsylvania.
He was an active member of the order A., F. & A. M.
