He was educated in the common schools and at a business college at Washington, Pennsylvania, succeeded to the Clokey farm at the death of his father, and became a successful farmer and stockman, making a specialty of Red Polled cattle and Black Top Merino sheep.
He was a Republican in politics and the members of the family held membership with the Pigeon Creek United Presbyterian Church.
