General Notes: Husband - Philemon Dowd Harding

He was a physician in New York when Governor Morton of Indiana issued a call for surgeons immediately after the battle of Pittsburgh Landing, and at once tendered his services to the great Indiana governor. He was assigned to duty and remained in the war many months, going with Sherman on his famous march to the sea.

He served as a surgeon in the Union army during the civil war and was with Sher-man in his celebrated "March to the Sea;" at the close of the war he settled in Goshen, Indi-ana, where he practiced medicine and surgery for many years; he then removed to Evanston, Illinois, the former home of his wife, and there followed his profession until his death.
