General Notes: Husband - Jesse Smith
Leesburgh, PA
He was but three and one-half years old when his father died, and was brought up by his mother, being well trained to habits of industry and honesty. At the age of nineteen years, he began learning the carpenter’s trade, and followed it for forty consecutive years, finding plenty of employment in a constantly growing country. In 1862 he bought a farm of one hundred acres in Springfield Township, Mercer County, PA, on which was one of the very first brick houses built in that section of the state, and a double log barn. For a few years thereafter, he rented his land, after which he superintended its management himself, working, also, at carpentering. Having accumulated a competency, he again rented his land, and lived retired, enjoying the comforts of life.
