General Notes: Husband - Alexander Maxwell
He was born in Ireland, and was brought to the United States in boyhood with his parents, in the year 1812. His mother died on the ship, but was buried in Baltimore; an infant brother also died on the voyage. Thus only two were left, William Maxwell, the father, and Alexander, his son. William Maxwell was forced into the federal service in the war of 1812 and died during the war. Alexander was left a two-year-old orphan in a strange land, and was raised by his uncle, Thomas Maxwell. Shortly after the war Thomas Maxwell removed to Washington County, and there Alexander Maxwell grew up. He became a captain on the Monongahela river.
