General Notes: Husband - Moses Cooper

In 1778 he started with his large family from New Jersey for Washington County, Pennsylvania, but while on the way he died in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, where he is buried. He had sold his property in New Jersey, receiving in payment thereof "Continental money," which had so depreciated at the time of his death as to be comparatively worthless. The family, now almost penniless, continued their journey westward, arriving in the course of time at their destination.

In 1777 he started to pilot his family across the country to Washington County, Pennsylvania. However, he never reached the place in which he had hoped to secure a goodly portion of land which his family might enjoy, for sickness fell upon him and he died at Uniontown. The widow had no other prospect than reaching Washington County, and she continued on her way with her children and reached Amwell Township in 1777. One of her sons, Nathaniel, secured a patent from the government for almost 400 acres of land.
