General Notes: Husband - Robert S. Hays

He was born on his father's farm in Connoquenessing township, Butler County, Pennsylvania, and resided there until 1864, when he purchased a farm of 150 acres in the same township, where he thereafter resided. In 1865 he bought a flour mill from Joseph McKinney, of Allegheny County, which he carried on in connection with agriculture. The mill had a capacity of twenty-five barrels per day. Mr. Hays was an elder for three years, and a trustee in the Presbyterian church for twelve years. In politics, he was a Republican, and filled the offices of collector and auditor for six years each.
