General Notes: Husband - William W. Patterson
He was educated in the country schools until he was eighteen years of age, and then left the farm and was employed by W. M. Wedell as a clerk in his general store at Mount Jackson, Pennsylvania. He continued with this employer for eighteen months, and in the same capacity was employed for a like period by J. D. F. Newell, at Mahoningtown. Mr. Patterson then became a brakeman on a passenger train on the Pennsylvania line, and worked there for nine years, at the end of which time he bought a farm. It was forty acres, and was situated in North Beaver Township, on the Mahoningtown-Mount Jackson highway, one half mile west of the family place. In 1903 he built a greenhouse and entered into the nursery business, raising flowers of all kinds and bedding plants, in addition to carrying on general agriculture.
