She began her education in the common schools, later attended a select school at Dayton, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, and afterward pursued her studies at Smicksburg, Indiana County, at Perrysville one term, at Mt. Union College, Ohio, for the same length of time, and later was a student at the Clarion State Normal. For some years she successfully engaged in teaching, a part of the time as assistant teacher of the high school of Punxsutawney, Jefferson County.
