He was educated in the common schools and at the academy of Lewistown, Pennsylvania. On attaining his majority he became identified with the lumber interests at Grand Rapids, Michigan, with his father and brothers. He was a Republican, and adhered firmly to party principles. He resided in West Market street, Lewistown.
