General Notes: Husband - Van Buren Snively

He spent his early life on the home farm, assisting his father with the work of the estate. He attended the country schools, afterward studying at St. Vincent's Monastery, finding there opportunities for self-education which he could not obtain elsewhere. His education was acquired chiefly through his own efforts and, though not a Roman Catholic, he gladly availed himself of the exceptional advantages offered by this institution. Under the instruction of Jackson Baker, of Greensburg, Mr. Snively acquired a knowledge of the carpenter's trade and afterward followed it for a few years. Later, he branched out into contracting and from that proceeded to building, finding success. He was employed in the erection of churches, school houses and other structures of importance, including the Municipal Building. The political allegiance of Mr. Snively was given to the Democratic party and he served for a time as school director, also occupying a seat in the Council of Southwest Greensburg. He was a firm believer in the higher education and did all in his power to further the cause. At one time he affiliated with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. His religious membership was in Zion Lutheran Church.
