Until fourteen years of age, lived with his father; he then spent a year in Kankakee, [IL,?] learning the carriage-making trade. He returned to Erie County, Pennsylvania, and clerked in D. B. Allen's drug store. He then took up the study of medicine, and attended the Medical Department of the University Ann Arbor, Mich., 1874 and 1875. He took his second course at the Medical Department of the Worcester University, Cleveland, Ohio, where he graduated Feb. 28, 1878; he then practiced his profession three years at Findley's Lake, NY, then for a year and a half was local surgeon for the Nickel Plate R. R., at North East, Erie County; thence for two years at Bear Lake, Warren County. In Aug., 1883, he located at his old home in Wattsburg.
