General Notes: Husband - Jacob Hovis




He was reared on the old Hovis farm in Clinton Township, Venango County, PA, one mile south of Clintonville, and died on almost the same spot, aged seventy-five years, one week. He came into possession of 177 acres of the original tract of John Hovis, and cleared most of his holdings, laboring industriously all his life to continue the improvement of the property. He erected the barn still (1919) in use there in 1847. He was one of the most zealous members of the M. E. Church, in which he served as class leader for fifty years, there being some question as to whether he or James Hughes was its first class leader. [CAB, 986]
