He was a graduate of Muskingum College, New Concord, Ohio, and University of Pittsburgh. He also attended California State College several summer sessions. He taught in the elementary division of the Charleroi Area School District. He also taught piano privately, traveling to the homes of his young pupils to give the lessons.
