He was not yet twenty-one when he enlisted with his brother for service in the Union Army during the Civil War. He was wounded at White Oak Swamps, Virginia, and died at the home of his uncle, Dr. Thomas Mabon, of Jacksonville, Indiana County, Pennsylvania.
