Civil War: he was a member of the Artillery at Fort Donelson, in Company G, Independent Pennsylvania Artillery, serving under Captain John J. Young. He was discharged from the United States service, June 15, 1865. He previously served in the "three months men" in West Virginia under Generals McClellan and Rosecrans.
