General Notes: Husband - Ralph S. Hood

He was born in Washington County, Pennsylvania, where he attended the public schools, afterwards studying in the courses at Slippery Rock Normal School, Grove City College, and Geneva College. He then taught school for ten years, five years as principal of the College Hill School at Beaver Falls, and he also served as assistant county superintendent of the Beaver County schools for a short time. He was appointed deputy collector of internal revenue in that district in October, 1919, so continuing until January 1, 1922, when he was appointed postmaster at Beaver Falls under the administration of President Harding. He was a Republican in politics, and with his vote and influence supported the principles of that party.
Mr. Hood enlisted in the World War in the 217th Field Signal Battalion, and he was assigned to various military camps, receiving his discharge February 9, 1919. His fraternal affiliations were with Beaver Falls Lodge, No. 662, Free and Accepted Masons, of which he was Past Master; Pittsburgh Consistory, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, of the thirty-second degree; and Syria Temple, Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. He was a descendant of Revolutionary ancestors, and thus qualified for membership in the Sons of the American Revolution, but no chapter of that order exists in Beaver Falls. He was president of the Western Pennsylvania Postmasters' Association; vice-president of the Beaver Falls Chamber of Commerce; and a member of the American Legion and the Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the Sessions of the First United Presbyterian Church.
