Vows exchanged in Sugarcreek
The Sugarcreek United Methodist Church was the setting for the marriage of Miss Sandra Jo Snyder and Timothy E. Carns at 1:30 o'clock on Saturday, July 30. The day also marked the 23rd wedding anniversary of the bridegroom's parents.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Snyder of Buttermilk Hill, Franklin RD 3. Parents of the bridegroom are Mr. and Mrs. Ronald L. Winburg of Marchand.
Lighted candles flanked an altar arrangement of yellow silk shasta chrysanthemums, blue roses, snapdragons and greens. The family pews were marked with yellow roses tied with satin bows.
Mrs. Audine Wilt, aunt of the bride, was the organist. The double-ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. Joseph Stains. Following the exchange of vows, the couple presented their mothers with yellow roses.
The bride was escorted to the altar by her father. She was attired in a long bridal gown of sheer polyester chiffon over taffeta. Delicate lace and appliques trimmed the sheer front and back yokes. The long skirt formed a chapel-length train. A bandeau enhanced with lace appliques and seed pearls secured her fingertip veil of sheer chiffon.
The bride carried a colonial bouquet of yellow silk rosebuds, blue carnations, lily-of-the-valley, and forget-me-nots, tied with white satin streamers. Her only jewelry was a single strand of pearls. She observed all the wedding traditions.
Mrs. Clara Bunch, sister of the bride, was the honor attendant. She wore a long yellow crystal-pleated gown of lustrous polyester featuring a fitted empire bodice with double spaghetti straps. The dress was complemented by a rosebud print jacket of matching fabric styled with ruffled cape sleeves and collar.
She carried a white lace fan adorned with blue silk daisies, yellow sweetheart roses and sprigs of lily-of-the-valley and forget-me-note tied with deep blue satin ribbons. She wore a matching floral comb in her hair.
Miss Patricia Lynn, cousin of the bride, served as bridesmaid. She wore a gown identical to that worn by the honor attendant. She carried a lace fan arrangement of yellow silk daisies, blue sweetheart roses accented with sprigs of lily-of-the-valley and yellow forget-me-nots tied with medium blue satin streamers. Her headdress was of matching flowers.
Cassie Marie Bunch, niece of the bride, was flower girl. Her long blue frock was of sheer polyester with point d' spiret ruffled neckline and front and back yokes trimmed with venise lace. The waistline was accented with an attached cummerbund. Her hair was enhanced with a comb of blue forget-me-nots and ribbon. She carried a basket of yellow and blue silk carnations, daisies and greens tied with blue satin streamers.
Cory McGill, cousin of the bride, was ring bearer. He carried a satin pillow edged in lace.
Vida Gates of Sugarcreek made the ring pillow and the wedding flowers.
Walter Winburg, brother of the bridegroom, served as best man. Roy Bunch, brother-in-law of the bride; and Robert McCune, cousin of the bride, served as ushers.
The bride's mother chose a slate blue polyester street-length dress styled with long sheer sleeves and a square ruffled yoke neckline. Her corsage was of dusty pink roses and slate blue forget-me-nots tied with dusty pink ribbon. The bridegroom's mother chose a blue and white street-length dress topped with matching jacket. Blue silk roses and yellow forget-me-nots, tied with blue satin ribbon formed her corsage.
Mrs. Oakley Snyder, grandmother of the bride, was favored with a corsage.
The newlyweds greeted their guests at a reception held in the Sugarcreek Civic Club. Approximately 125 guests attended.
The hall was decorated with blue, white and yellow streamers and wedding bells. Candles were used on the bridal table. A three-tier cake topped with a miniature bridal couple, featured a lighted water fountain and yellow streamers extending from the top tier to four cakes at the base which were trimmed with greens and roses. The cake was baked and cut by Mrs. Doris Lynn, aunt of the bride. She was assisted by Sandy McCune, cousin of the bride.
Aides were Carol Kilgore, Sue Long and Carrie Bennett.
Miss Jeanie Bell registered guests from Marchand, Cochranton, Utica, Franklin, Van, Greenville and New York.
The new Mrs. Carns is a graduate of Rocky Grove High School. Her husband attended school in the Marchand area where the newlyweds will be residing.
The bride's parents hosted a rehearsal dinner in their home Friday evening.
A pre-nuptial shower was hosted by Margie Rodgers, assisted by Mrs. Doris Lynn, both aunts of the bride, and Clara Bunch, sister of the bride.
