He was born in Scotland, and at an early day settled in Washington County, Pennsylvania. [CBRWC, 730]

Originally a native of York County, Pennsyvania, in the latter part of the eighteenth century he came to Washington County with his wife and family, and settled on the farm where the remainder of his life was passed.
He was a member of the old Seceder Church. [CBRWC, 328]

He went from York County, Pennsylvania, to Washington County, in 1804, with his brother James. [CBRWC, 12]

He had four children. [CBRWC, 328]
He and his wife reared seven children. [CBRWC, 844 & 1191]
