General Notes: Husband - Benjamin Franklin Mateer

He was born Dec. 5, 1850, and grew to manhood on the family farm. He received the greater part of his education at Dayton, and for ten years was engaged in school teaching, following that profession in Pine, Boggs, Valley and Washington townships, Armstrong County. Meantime he also followed farming, and when he gave up teaching he settled down to agricultural pursuits in Boggs township, obtaining 101 acres of land. He later bought another eighty acres, and the entire tract was improved and cultivated according to the most modern ideas. Mr. Mateer erected substantial buildings; he also owned a residence in the borough of Kittanning. Mr. Mateer was always a Democrat, but took no part in politics and never aspired to office.
