General Notes: Husband - John S. Carlile


He was born on the old Hatfield farm in Amwell township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, and remained at home until 1864, in which year his mother died. He was educated at the common schools, and at Pleasant Valley Academy. When yet a boy he learned the carpenter's trade, serving a regular apprenticeship of three years with a Mr. Keeney, and then followed that business, being constantly engaged in contracting and building.
He was an influential Republicans in his township. He was enumerator of the First Precinct of Amwell township for the eleventh census, and, with the exception of three years, was a member of the election board for twenty years.
