General Notes: Husband - John Elmer Stoops
He was born in Washington Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania, and after attending the common schools, he began work on the farm, continuing thereon until he was twenty-seven years old. He then entered the mercantile business in Moniteau, Butler County, for three and one-half years; the next three and one-half years found him in business in Gomersal, a mining town, and then locating at Slippery Rock, in 1896, he established himself there for twenty-three years. In February, 1918, he disposed of that business, and thereafter he devoted himself to financial matters, holding the position of president of the First National Bank of Slippery Rock. He was also director and treasurer of the Slippery Rock Light and Heat Company. Mr. Stoops was a Republican in political matters; and he was an elder of the United Presbyterian Church.
