He followed the profession of teaching and held many positions in Pennsylvania and the Northwest Territory. He sent his son, James Canon McMullin to be educated under the instruction of the celebrated Father Gallitzin, a Russian nobleman who emigrated to the United States and founded a school in Loretta.
