General Notes: Husband - Thomas Franklin Christley
He received a common school education, and learned the plasterer's trade in early manhood. In 1858 he purchased a farm in Cherry township, Butler County, PA, which consisted of 196 acres, a portion of which he later sold. He eventually owned 100 acres of well improved land, where he followed agricultural pursuits, in connection with his trade. In 1864 he enlisted in Company B, Fiftieth Pennsylvania Volunteers, and served until the close of the war, participating in the battles of Hatcher's Run, Petersburg, etc. He became a member of Dickson Post, G. A. R., of West Sunbury. He was a Republican until 1884, when he became a Prohibitionist. He filled the offices of school director and supervisor, and always took an active interest in public affairs. In early life he united with the Methodist Episcopal church of Centreville, and was one of the original members of the Anandale church.
