General Notes: Husband - Charles Chestnut
He was born on the Chestnut family homestead in Pymatuning Township, Mercer County, PA, and left school at the early age of thirteen and began learning the trade of a boat builder. Six years after this, when he was nineteen, he left for New Orleans, LA, following up the Mississippi river to Dubuque, IA, where he spent three years as a carpenter and boat builder, and then returning to Mercer County, turned his attention
to farming in Pymatuning Township. After his marriage he moved to Libertyville, IA, but after five years of farming there again returned to his old home in Mercer County, buying and operating until 1873 his father’s farm, and he then bought his own farm, later owned and occupied by his son Andrew.
